Perfect Lolita Cosplay
Posted on September 1st, 2010 No commentsLolita was influenced and popularized by the imagery of more feminine Visual Kei bands. Visual Kei is a Japanese form of rock music defined by bands featuring performers in elaborate costumes but whose musical style varies. Mana, the cross-dressing former leader and guitarist of the Visual Kei band Malice Mizer is widely credited for having helped popularize Gothic Lolita. He coined the terms “Elegant Gothic Lolita” (EGL) and “Elegant Gothic Aristocrat” (EGA) to describe the style of his own fashion label Moi-même-Moitié, which was founded in 1999 and quickly established itself as one of the most coveted brands of the Lolita scene Cosplay.

A perfect Lolita outfit is an extremely tough quest undertaken by many girls. Often, the actual outfit worn is a far cry from the attempted or the desired one. Many girls, especially the new-comers in Lolita fashion, confuse the term ‘cosplay Lolita’ with Lolita. There are numerous clear-cut differences between the two.
Elegance-Sophistication is a must, so in case, your neckline is too revealing, one must wear a blouse beneath, or in case the skirt is too short, make another or wear bloomers.
Poise- Cosplay Lolita’s usually overdo the lace, and this is a ‘must avoid’ in order to provide a classy look. Instead a judicious balance between lace and open space has to be made, or else avoid lace completely!
Material-Cosplay Lolita is known for its fabric made of satin, therefore, any kind of shine on the material must be avoided. Instead, lightweight cotton of superior quality must be preferred.

Undergarments- A anime cosplay Lolita usually wears no petticoat, a hoop skirt, or a square dance petticoat. The latter gives an unwanted outward flare shape, where as the hoop skirt is rarely worn well. Generally, proper Lolita’s wear a petticoat style called a pannier, which enhances the skirt portion and creates a cupcake-like shape. They are created from two or three layers of crinoline netting. To identify a pannier, wear it under a skirt, it should provide a cup-cake like appearance to the outfit. Bloomers, if worn, must be above the knee and hidden from plain sight.
Hair- As such, there is no specific style of hair for an elegant Lolita, though a ponytail is usually avoided. Pigtails, straight, curly, puffy, buns, or with bangs are usually the preferred alternatives.
Footwear- A fashionable Lolita will normally be found sporting a low heel or platform mary-janes, or maybe even a cute pair of sandals. Sneakers and stiletto platforms are strict no-no’s.
Research- One of the most underrated steps in obtaining the Lolita look is scanning through magazines or internet sites for examples of the styles to be replicated.

In Japan, despite still being a subculture and fringe fashion, Lolita fashion is mass-marketed and has wide visibility particularly in the streets of Tokyo and Osaka, on television, in manga and computer games. Outside of Japan it is still a widely unknown fringe fashion although it has slowly begun to spread to other countries. Lolita fashion, along with cosplay and other Japanese cultural phenomena, can sometimes be seen at concerts and anime conventions throughout Europe and the United States. The style has not yet been mass marketed outside of Japan, although increasingly Japanese brands are available for purchase abroad directly from the brands. However, there are plenty of dedicated fans filling the still-remaining gap. Lolita fashion magazines are widely available for purchase on the Internet and at Japanese bookstores which also deal in anime and manga. Adherents often sew their own homemade Lolita outfits, sometimes offering them for sale to make up for the difficulty of acquiring them from Japan. Apart from most Western fashions, Lolita tends to hold higher expectations to those that dress it. Higher quality clothes are favored over “Cheap Cosplay” lace and cosplay-esque designs.

Japanese Lolita Cosplay
Posted on August 3rd, 2010 No commentsTake a vacation to Japan, particularly Tokyo’s Harajuku district, and you are bound to face an army of these colorful and gothic dolls posing sweetly in the streets.

This Lolita cosplay fashion started in Japan during the late 70’s, but took off in the 90’s. Since, it has been permeating the world like a sugary, pink torrent.

The origins of the fashion’s name is not confirmed, but is likely referenced from Vladimir Nabokov’s novel, Lolita, a story about a middle-aged pedophile and his relationship with a 13-year old ‘nymphet.’

The fashion boasts a mix of Victorian and Rococo period clothing with more modern fashion trends like punk, goth and casual-wear Cheap Cosplay. In fact,The rise of Lolita fashion was largely influenced by Japanese rock bands from the Visual Kei musical movement during the 80s and 90s.

Of all the Visual Kei groups to advocate Lolita fashion the most notable was Malice Mizer, a band established in 1992. One of the two founding members, Mana, wore Gothic Lolita fashion. Today he is a pioneer in the Lolita realm.

Fullmetal Alchemist
Posted on July 30th, 2010 No commentsFullmetal Alchemist, is a Japanese manga series written Cheap Cosplay and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa. The world of Fullmetal Alchemist is styled after the European Industrial Revolution. Set in a fictional universe in which alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques known to man, the story follows the brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, who want to restore their bodies after a disastrous failed attempt to bring their mother back to life through alchemy.

The story is followed in the film Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa situated two years after the end of the anime. While Edward is working in Germany to find a way to return to Amestris, Dietlinde Eckhart, a member from the Thule Society, discovers the existence of Ed’s world and starts giving him hints to open a portal to Amestris. Alphonse, having been looking for his brother after two years, also discovers the portal and opens it at the same time as his father Hohenheim opens the one from Germany, allowing Dietlinde to enter Amestris and try to conquer it. Edward reunites with his brother and they join forces to defeat Dietlinde. Knowing the danger that both worlds are now connected through the portal, Edward returns to Germany to destroy cosplay that side of the portal, knowing that he would be trapped there forever. Alphonse secretly follows him, having decided to stay with Edward.

The first half of the anime’s plot basically follows that of the manga, but the plots severely diverge from each other near the middle of the story;[1] when Ed and Al reunite with their teacher. A former lover of Hohenheim, their teacher’s teacher, Dante, acts as the series’ main antagonist, appearing only in the anime. Centuries ago, the two perfected methods for making the Philosopher’s Stone, achieving a sort of immortality by transferring their soul and intellect into others’ bodies as they age. Hohenheim was eventually overcome by the guilt of sacrificing lives to make the Stone and left Dante. Although Dante is still able to jump from body to body with the last stone she and Hohenheim created, she does not possess the complete knowledge on how to make one. She uses the homunculi to spur Edward and Alphonse, along with other Alchemists equally desperate, into creating another complete Philosopher’s Stone for her.

The manga was serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Shōnen Gangan magazine (starting August 2001 and ending June 2010) and currently has 25 tankōbon volumes. It was adapted into an animated television series of 51 episodes by Bones from October 4, 2003, to October 2, 2004, later followed by a film sequel that concluded the story of the anime. Fullmetal Alchemist would later spawn a second series called Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, which first premiered in Japan on April 5, 2009. Another feature film will follow the end of Brotherhood. A multitude of spin-off novels, original video animations (OVAs), drama CDs, soundtracks, and video games have been adapted from the series. A collectible card game, multiple supplementary books, and a variety of FullMetal Alchemist Cosplay and other merchandise based on the characters of the series have also been released.

Gothic Lolita Fashion
Posted on July 28th, 2010 No commentsTake cosplay costumes you already own, or do a quick run to the thrift store to find clothes to which you can add Lolita clothing qualities. Great items for this include black dresses, skirts and vests. Remember that the Lolita subculture stems from the Lolita character, so a mix of strong and soft materials and colors is always the underlying theme.

Lolita fashion is all about trims. Everything from a simple black blouse to a plain black skirt has a contrasting brightly colored trim. Measure the length of the garment of section thereof, and measure your lace accordingly. You can hand-sew trim on something small such as a sleeve if you have beginner sewing skills, while using a machine will likely make things more durable in the long run.

Invest in a few essential items. These include a white blouse and/or a black blouse cosplay, one or two full skirts, a good petticoat, bloomers, and knee-high or over-the-knee socks. Blouses vary with style, for sweet you may want a peter pan collar, for classic you may want a high collar. Other elements to look for in a blouse are a nice, tailored look, puff or cap sleeves, a bib or yoke, pintucks, ruffles or a decent amount of lace, and perhaps a neck bow if you wish. The skirts must be around knee length and full enough to fit a petticoat underneath. Also, make sure that the skirt fits on your waist or a little below it, but not at your hips. In order to get the right silhouette, the skirt must sit at the natural waist. After you have these, expand into other colors than black and white. Red, pink, light and dark blue, brown and floral patterns are common. A good petticoat is NOTHING like a square dancing petticoat. A-Line or Bell shaped is recommended. Hoop skirts and light slips will not fill out the skirt correctly.

Get a good pair of shoes and/or boots. Appropriate shoes include the classic Mary-Janes and Mary-Jane inspired shoes, platforms, chunky heels or espadrilles that cover your whole foot. Ballet flats are generally not liked as they do not look quite “right” with knee socks, though you may wear them if you wish. If you’re a beginner, you should invest in a good pair of Mary-Janes, as they will always be acceptable. The heels should be as wide as the natural heel itself. Stiletto heels are sometimes acceptable, if comfortable and not too high. Wedge heels might be acceptable as long as the shape of the shoe is appropriate. If possible, you may go for these kind of shoes on platforms, as long as they are not meant to be fetish shoes.

Try to look as natural as possible. Anyone can wear lolita Cheap Cosplay , but having raccoon eyes or hot pink eyeshadow does not look good with your classic style Innocent World jumperskirt. Try to match your makeup to the style. Gothic? Dramatic deep eyeshadow and a crimson lip work well. Country? Natural, light makeup and pink cheeks do the trick. But no matter what, do not use whiteface makeup. It looks very costume-like and horrible, and only 80′s era goths are known and should be known for doing that.
